How to store the road salt?
When frost arrives, floors subjected to sub-zero temperatures become icy and consequently, increasingly slippery. This increases the risk of dangerous falls, which is the biggest problem on uneven surfaces, such as cobblestones and all kinds of driveways, hills and stairs. To avoid the hazard, it's a good idea to use road salt then. The calcium chloride produces the heat when it comes into contact with moisture, so it quickly causes snow and ice to melt, making surfaces much safer. It is most effective when serious icing has not yet occurred and the ice layer is relatively thin. That's why it's a good idea to buy it in stock so that it can be used on the right occasion.
How to store the road salt in bags?
The biggest hazard to the road salt is moisture, which leads to its clumping which is sticking together of individual grains into smaller or larger lumps. It then becomes unusable, losing many of its desirable properties. Although bags, especially those of the best quality, provide some protection from the moisture, it is safest to store the road salt in a dry place protected from rain and snow. So use airtight, clean and relatively warm storage facilities. As an alternative to bags, specially adapted containers provide the best possible conditions so that the road salt is always ready for use. However, a severely limited amount can be stored in them, and they are definitely more expensive solution.
